The ambush at the White House on May 21, showed how composed President Ramaphosa was and at uSpiked, we were glad he didn’t lose his cool; we asked CHATGPT the original location of the white crosses presented as evidence of genocide in South Africa. And within minutes, the Open AI produced a copy that we hereby publish in full.

In Brief

    • There is no genocide taking place in South Africa
    • Presenting props from a mass protest as true event doesn't help.
    • Claims that the media has been compromised is sad and quite unfortunate.

The small white crosses featured in the video presented by former U.S. President Donald Trump to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on May 21, 2025, were not actual graves. They were part of a protest held on September 5, 2020, near Normandien in KwaZulu-Natal province. This demonstration was organized in response to the murder of Glen and Vida Rafferty, a white farming couple.

The crosses were temporarily placed by volunteers to symbolize farmers who had been killed over the years, aiming to draw attention to farm-related violence. They were removed after the protest and did not mark actual burial sites .(Reuters, ABC News, CBS News)

During the Oval Office meeting, President Trump misrepresented these crosses as evidence of a "white genocide" in South Africa, a claim that has been widely debunked. President Ramaphosa and his delegation refuted this narrative, emphasizing that crime in South Africa affects all citizens, regardless of race, and that the government's policies do not support such extremist views .(@EconomicTimes, The Times)

The video also included footage of Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, chanting a controversial song. President Ramaphosa clarified that Malema's views do not represent government policy and highlighted South Africa's commitment to a multiparty democracy that upholds freedom of expression .(@EconomicTimes, NPR)

This incident underscores the complexities of South Africa's social dynamics and the importance of accurate representation in international discourse.(Axios)

Like most of us, President Ramaphosa may have been confused by the presentation of the 2020 mass protest that is allowed by the Constitution of the Republic which may have gone unnoticed considering that 2020 was the year the world was struggling with containment of COVID-19.  The White House presentation did not include the fact that the murders of the couple ended with the conviction of two suspects. tagging the crimes as 'genocide' appears aimed at normalizing it; a great deservice to humanity.]
